Why Vida Lenta?

Vida Lenta came about to conceptualize a home base that disconnects from the fast pace demands of our modern world. This project fosters an environment tailored for slower living. Unadorned with excessive embellishment, alternatively, Vida Lenta evokes ideas based in simplicity of space. A home defined by the use of humble materials, coupled with modern design components, and spirited by philosophies that enrich the human experience. Vida Lenta is an exploration of an environment where time, our most precious asset, can be slowed down. Ultimately, leading us to the true luxury of life.

Philosophy

The philosophy that drives the spirit of this space is one tethered to many parts of the world. We can look far and east to the ideas of perfect imperfection and channel the wabi sabi ethos. Influences of western civilization through an aim to re-imaging the already refined ideas of modernism. There’s also a nod to the practices of cultures from Africa and the native Western Hemisphere drawing upon their use of indigenous materials as a source of technology. All these elements comprise the spirit of the space, making its dwellers an amalgamation of a worldly lived human experience.

Materiality

The choice of materials such as plaster and wood is meant to evoke nostalgic recollections of being in an environment where the materials were palpable and natural. Allowing our senses to feel aligned with the living environment, in an attempt to help re-kindle our relationship with nature.

Modernity

To evolve the concept, we went beyond the materials of the environment. To romanticize the space, modern design furnishings were utilized to add a sense of warmth and livability that allows for this space to transcend its materials, in order to become a home.
